Northwest Electric and Solar LLC is a full‐service commercial and residential electrical contractor with a focus on clean energy including solar plus storage, electric vehicle charging, and energy efficiency. We take on electrical jobs of any size.
NWES is located in a solar powered office and shop in Kenmore just off State Route 522, NE Bothell Way. We work throughout the Puget Sound area (including Seattle, Eastside, King County, Snohomish County, Pierce County), Western Washington and install solar statewide.
NWES has built strong relationships and reputation based on experience, craftsmanship, creativity and professionalism. We offer competitive prices and always meet electric and building code standards.
Meet the Owner: Derek White
Owner and CEO Derek White started the company in 2011 putting to use ten years of electrical experience with Seattle City Light and private firms. Derek started as an apprentice, then journeyman electrician. He received solar training in California where he was certified in solar PV (photovoltaic) design and installation. Most recently, he became a Master Electrician. Derek built the company from scratch based on his experience, knowledge and superior customer service along with his passion for solar energy. Derek says, “I have found another love in my trade … free electricity from the sun!”
Derek is responsible for our standard practice of building systems better than “to code” ensuring that our field crews use best practice in each solar installation or electrical project we complete. Derek is the main point of contact for inspectors and utilities; he often finds himself teaching them about the latest advances in technology, particularly his knowledge of interconnection of Tesla’s Powerwall battery system.
Derek grew up in Kirkland and now lives with his wife and three children in a solar-powered home not far from the office. “I have always had a passion for my work and take great pride in what I do. I seek long-lasting relationships with customers, contractors and inspectors. “
As an electrician and solar installer, Derek says NWES can get the project done faster and less expensively. We can help improve your site’s energy efficiency by finding ways to reduce the usage of watts to lower your electric bills and help you go green.
In appreciation of our customers, NWES selected Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center in Redmond to receive a donated solar system installed in June 2019 which will inspire future fundraising campaigns to help Little Bit get to net zero electricity. Read the Redmond Reporter news coverage.
Meet the Team
Our Kenmore office is staffed by office manager Jeramy, bookkeeper Rebecca, administrative assistant Theresa, solar designers Ian and Josh. Ian is NABCEP certified in Solar PV Sales and manages the solar installation crews, inspections and schedules. Jeramy manages and schedules the Electric Vehicle Charger installations. Derek, the owner, oversees Powerwall installations and larger scale electrical projects.
Derek White, Ian Robinson and Sam Smith are solar representatives. An Olympia native, Sam got his MBA focusing in sustainability and subsequently entered the Solar industry in 2011 working for SolarCity and Tesla in the San Francisco Bay Area. Returning to WA in 2013, Sam became part of the NWES team and is passionate about helping people find their solar solution. Brothers Ian and Josh Robinson design solar systems using the latest software.
You’ll find Joan Schrammeck doing Community Outreach at booths at events and fairs around the region.
Electricians and electrical apprentices make up the rest of the team. They stop by the office on a regular basis to pick up supplies, attend safety meetings or share lunch. but the bulk of their time is at the job sites. Each week, we install a solar system, several Powerwall home backup batteries, 10 to 20 electric car chargers, and take on about 10 or more other electrical projects.
