In June we dedicated the new rooftop solar system at Friends of Youth in Issaquah. The system was donated in part by NWES as a result of the Solarize Issaquah Campaign, a collaboration between Spark Northwest, City of Issaquah Sustainability Department and NWES. The remainder of the 12 KW solar system was funded by a grant to FOY from Puget Sound Energy. Watch the video here:
For July and August 2019, Northwest Electric and Solar sponsored the City of Kenmore events including Wednesday night movies at the Kenmore Square and the Thursday night concerts at Saint Edward Park. Each event was a fun opportunity to connect with our community, especially the children.
The most popular of the give-a-ways we offered was the “plantable pencil” which is a pencil with seeds embedded where the eraser usually is. We tell folks to plant it in the ground or in a pot and water it every day, pencil marks the spot where you need to water. The growing plant relies on the power of sunshine plus water and soil to grow.
In August, we also had a booth at Bothell’s Sustainamania, a fun community event focused on environmentally sustainable practices.
